P4

Screenshot of Folder Layout:

Each of the P folders (i.e. P1, P2 etc) contain all of the components listed on the long road media blog for each section. For example, within the P1 folder is the PowerPoint Treatment, Sound Script, Asset Plan, and Production schedule as well as the music/clip files needed for the podcast which is described within the asset plan.

Within the Audition Folder is the audition files for the vox pops that I edited and for the actual podcast.

The Audio Stings folder contains the MP3 files that I downloaded from YouTube interviews/clips related to the topic (Spider-Man) so that I could use them as audio stings within my podcast.

The Screenshots folder simply contains the screenshots of audition as well as any screenshots of work that I needed.

Within the Recordings Folder is all of the recordings I made for the podcast. The vox pops are in a separate folder because I edited them in a different audition file. I did not use all of the files within the folder as I found some were unnecessary or the audio quality of them was not high enough. The unused files were the 'atmosphere', 'interview background' and 'interview - not using' files.

Above is the Vox Pops folder within the Recordings folder. The only recording I did not use was AtmosSound as I found it was not necessary within the podcast.

Production Techniques:

11/09/17 - Tom explained to the class how to use the microphones; where to hold them and how close, how to tell if they are recording, how to get them to record. I then recorded 3 vox pops using the supplied microphone. Two of which were recorded while outside while the other was in the classroom. I also recorded some atmosphere sound while outside in case I needed it when editing the vox pops. I then connected the microphone to the computer to transfer the recordings so that I could listen to them to see if they were suitable.

12/09/17 - Rob explained about creating a Treatment for the product and what information was needed. After downloading a treatment template from the Long Road media blog, I searched for and added in the information needed as well as edited the theme of the PowerPoint to suit the product. This required downloading images related to Spider-Man and the movie to use within the PowerPoint.

13/09/17 - Barney introduced the class to the Adobe Audition and briefly explained the basic of how to use it. I uploaded my recorded vox pops to Audition and proceeded to edit them where necessary. For example, I would cut out any pauses in conversation that were too long as well as areas that had too much background noise to hear the speaker. I would also raise the volume and fade it in or out as needed to better hear the speaker.

14/09/17 - Rob explained that an Asset Plan and Sound Script were needed for the production of the podcast. I downloaded the templates for both from the Long Road media blog and began filling out and collecting any assets for the Asset Plan. For example, I found and downloaded royalty free music for the intro and outro as well as jingles within the podcast. I also began to write my Script for the podcast, following the template I downloaded.

15/09/17 - Barney said that a Production Schedule for the podcast needed to be filled out so, I downloaded the template from the Long Road media blog and filled it everything that I had done so far.

18/09/17 - Tom explained that the Location Recce, Risk Assessment, and Risks and Hazards forms needed to be filled out so I downloaded the templates for each off of the media blog. Tom allowed us to go into the selected room for recording to assess it for the location recce. After that, I began to fill out each of the forms.

19/09/17 - I recorded the script except for the interview section. To do this I used my own laptop and microphone in a secluded room to make sure there would be no noise disturbances. I used a program called Audacity to record myself and then exported the sound files and put them onto a USB so that I could transfer them to the school computers.

20/09/17 - I recorded the interview section of the podcast with Rob using my own laptop and microphone and the recording software Audacity. After that I transferred the file to the school computer using a USB stick and began to edit the podcast in Adobe Audition, bringing all the assets together.

21/09/17 - Rob explained that a legal and ethical form needed to be filled out and that to do so you needed to look up the BBC's guidelines to see what applied to the podcast and explain how you made sure you were following the guidelines. After finding which applied to my podcast, I filled out the form.

26/09/17 -  I downloaded the Talent Release Form from the media blog and then altered it to suit for my podcast. I then got Rob to sign it as he is the one I interviewed before uploading it to my blog.

Equipment:

Audition:

This is a screenshot of the program Audition which I used to edit my audio for the podcast. As you can see above, each of the different sections within the program is labelled. Most are self-explanatory. The file finder is used to locate any files you need for the project and to store them. The track effects section is used to add any effects you want on the audio clip. History keeps all the information of everything you do in case you need to go back and undo something. The multitrack editor is where you edit the audio clips. The master levels show the volume levels of the track playing. Finally, the sound types section is used to assign an audio type.

Microphone:

This is a photo of the microphone I used to record the vox pops. When recording, to check if the microphone was still recording I had to look for the symbol that said 'REC'. To get the best sound quality, I had to hold the microphone close to the person who was speaking so that it would pick up their voice better.
